What is OFALycée?
OFALycée is a bilingual online French-American school offering a high-quality education from Kindergarten to 12th grade to students schooled in the American system. Our unique dual curriculum combines the excellence of the French National Education program with the flexibility and innovation of the American educational system. Students gain the academic rigor, language mastery, and cultural understanding needed to succeed in both systems.
Our students are bilingual or French-speaking learners, either from French families living in the United States or abroad, who wish to maintain their connection to French education while pursuing an American academic path, or Francophile families of other nationalities who wish to provide their children with a bilingual education.
OFALycée is designed for French-speaking or Francophile families who want their children enrolled in the American system to also receive a French education. It is ideal for families seeking bilingualism, academic excellence, and cultural continuity.
The concept of OFALycée is to build on the knowledge and skills students acquire in the American system and enrich them with the depth and rigor of the French curriculum. This complementary approach helps students achieve academic excellence in both systems while strengthening their bilingual and bicultural identity.
OFALycée is a U.S.-based online institution. While our administrative offices are located in the United States, our virtual classrooms bring together teachers and students from across North America, Europe, and other regions around the world.
We currently have around 400 students enrolled at our school, spread across multiple countries and seven different time zones.
Where do OFALycée students live?
Our students live across the United States and around the world. Our families are expatriate, bilingual or Francophile families seeking to maintain a link with French language and culture while benefiting from American schooling.
OFALycée was founded by a team of three French educators who share a passion for bilingual education and innovation in digital learning. After many years teaching in French and international schools, they united in their goal to create a new online school that pushed the boundaries of traditional education, using innovation in teaching and learning as a driving force to provide a new kind of bilingual education, accessible to all students, wherever they may live. Their goal with OFALycee was to create a bridge between the French and American systems—offering families the best of both worlds and opening doors worldwide for their graduating students.
Unlike traditional French schools, OFALycée offers a flexible online model designed to complement American schooling. Our live, interactive classes are taught by certified French teachers and adapted to students’ U.S. schedules. This hybrid approach allows students to pursue a rigorous French curriculum without having to attend a physical French school or forgo the opportunity for an American education in parallel.
While the CNED provides a self-paced correspondence format that is managed and supported entirely by the parents, OFALycée offers live, interactive classes led by certified teachers who know the program and each student personally. In contrast to the CNED, our programs take into account the content that has been learnt at American school and does not require students to repeat it, but rather use it and expand on it to meet the requirements of the French program. Our model fosters engagement, community, and bilingual communication – not just independent study. In addition, OFALycée offers guidance and support to students using our expert knowledge and experience to help families navigate both the French and American systems seamlessly.
OFALycée students benefit from small group learning, bilingual proficiency, academic rigor, and flexibility. They gain access to both French and American educational opportunities, preparing them for success in global universities. Our programs also help preserve and celebrate their French language and culture for students growing up abroad by welcoming them to our vibrant, dynamic school community.

OFALycée’s programs align with the French Ministry of Education standards and are taught by certified French teachers. However, as the French Ministry of Education does not currently award “homologation” to schools that are 100% online, OFALycee cannot have this title. Recognition is instead achieved through the diplomas that our students take. We are proud of the 100% success rate of our students since 2021 in the French Brevet des Colleges and the French Baccalaureat, both awarded by the French National Education.

OFALycée does, however, hold COGNIA accreditation, making our school part of 36,000 accredited schools in over 80 countries with a student body of almost 25 million and an educator team of over 5 million. This prestigious accreditation is a seal of both quality and academic rigor that is recognized the world over.

Academics

What is OFALycée?
OFALycée offers a range of curricula that are tailored to the language level and learning needs of the individual students. Our prestigious French Baccalaureat programs follow the French National Education curriculum, while our Bilingual High School Diploma program is a rigorous yet flexible program designed to work in conjunction with the American school program. Programs in elementary and middle school range from French language programs with a strong DELF component to the full French National Education curriculum. Our team works with every family personally to ensure each student is placed in the program that is both appropriate to the student’s level and caters to his/her learning objectives. In all our programs, however, we combine the rigor of the French system with an international perspective, allowing students to thrive both in American and French academic settings.
Our classes are live online classes that are highly interactive, led by qualified teachers who engage students in real time. Sessions can be recorded to enable absent students to catch up if they miss a class.
OFALycee classes run over the course of the standard school year, from September to June. The main entry point for new students is September. However, we continue to accept new students in classes with space until February. Our admissions team will guide you through the best timing for your child’s smooth integration.
The concept of OFALycée is to build on the knowledge and skills students acquire in the American system and enrich them with the depth and rigor of the French curriculum. This complementary approach helps students achieve academic excellence in both systems while strengthening their bilingual and bicultural identity.
We currently offer programs from elementary school (Kindergarten/Grande Section) through high school (Grade 12/ Terminale).
Our classes are intentionally small, as this allows teachers to give each child individual attention and to build a strong, supportive classroom community. From Kindergarten to 3rd grade, there are maximum 4 students per class, from 4th Grade to 8th Grade, there are maximum 6 students per class and from 9th to 12th Grade, there are a maximum of 8 students per class.
Classes are taught in French, taught by native French teachers.
Classes take place online through OFALycée’s secure and interactive digital platform, Canvas and Zoom. Students can connect from anywhere in the world — all they need is a computer, a webcam, and a stable internet connection.
We use Zoom for live classes and communication, Canvas as our Learning Management System and TADS/Educate as our enrollment and parent platform for schedules, grades, and parent communication.

No. We recommend French as a minimum, sometimes math as well. Achieving grade-level academic French is the key to success in high school and this is the priority with our middle school students. Math and social studies are a great way to broaden a middle schooler’s education, as well as increase their weekly exposure to the French language, but they are not essential in order to be able to access the brevet and baccalaureat programs. Students targeting the French national diplomas are advised individually on the recommended classes to be taken starting in 9th grade.

Our flexible, personalized model allows gifted or accelerated learners to advance at their own pace. Our student-led philosophy for class placement and the flexibility of our online environment enables us to tailor class options to meet the needs of students, offering, when appropriate, early access to higher-level courses.
OFALycée’s adaptable scheduling and online format make it ideal for students with demanding extracurricular commitments. We help families balance academics and passions without sacrificing either.

We plan to move back to France. Will my child be accepted back into school there after attending OFALycée?
Yes. Because OFALycée follows the French National Education program, your child can rejoin the French school system at the appropriate level without difficulty. No OFALycee student to date has ever had to take a test or reclass upon returning to France.
We help families prepare for reintegration by providing academic records, placement advice, and transition guidance, ensuring a smooth return to the French system.
Our courses are designed to complement an American education, offering French academic instruction outside regular school hours. OFALycee’s curricula take into account what is learnt in the American school system and enables students to use and expand on this knowledge to help them fulfil the demands of the French program. The two program are designed to work together to optimize learning in both systems, allowing students to achieve true academic bilingualism and biculturalism.
We generally recommend alignment between majors at both OFALycee and the American school, as this allows the highest degree possible of complementarity between the two systems and optimizes both learning and time management. We provide individual guidance for class choices for all students who need it.
Yes. We offer college and university guidance for both French and international systems, through our partnership with Anywhere Uni, experts in international college counseling. Services are offered to all students at no extra charge starting in 10th Grade.
Yes. Our professional SEL coach is available to work with out students either individually or in small groups throughout the year. In addition she offers regular complementary adult sessions open to our parent community. We believe that student well-being is essential to their personal and academic success and as a school we do everything we can to support our students!

Parents play an important role by encouraging good study habits and communication. You don’t need to speak French — simply staying involved, ensuring regular attendance, and showing interest makes a big difference.

For younger students, we ask that a parent or adult be within reach for the first few classes to help out if needed. However, with the help and guidance of our expert teachers, even our littlest students get into the groove very quickly and parent involvement in classes is not necessary.

The French program and Philosophy program (12th Grade) have two classes per week. All other subjects have one class per week.
Each class typically lasts 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the subject and grade level.

It depends on the classes taken and, in high school, the choice of diploma. An overview is provided below:

French: 2 x 45 min class / week + 1.5 hrs of homework

History-Geography: 1 x 45 min class / week + 30 mins of homework

Math: 1 x 1 hr class / week + 1 hr homework

Brevet program: 7-8 hrs class + homework combined / week

Baccalaureat program: 10 hr class + homework combined / week

Bilingual High School Diploma Program: 4-5 hrs class + homework combined / week

No. We provide support when needed to all OFALycee students. However, we are unable to provide a tutoring or one-on-one service at this time.
